Mother Back to School

I know that it has become a privilege for modern-day mothers to be able to accompany their children to and from school, to be present in their school shows and activities and to be simply present for them...period. Now that I am under my "mother's scholarship" in pursuing my post-graduate studies in exchange of being her girl-Friday, I have the time to be an active parent for my first-grader. Now that my son has accomplished all of his admission requirements, and I am done with my own admission requirements, it's time to go shopping for uniforms and supplies. 'Must be fun.

What I look forward to this year is the chance to really pay attention to my son. Although I am a teacher, I never had the chance to really help my son study his lessons or prepare for his exams, which explains my bowling tears when he went up the stage to receive his medals during his preparatory graduation. I felt really guilty that it was the only event that I attended for him that year. But this year, things may be different. I will be in every occasion, every time, any where.

Of course, I have my own studying to do, but the great thing is that I will have my study table shared with my son. Imagine digging our noses in our own books, the quiet study time with hot cocoa on the side. Now I don't know about you but that is bliss for me. Sharing and instilling the importance of good education to your child in your own fun way!

Whew!


Im so sorry guys for neglecting this blog for like two weeks. Wendastarr just got busy with school and many other things. After surviving OJT, thesis writing and thesis defense, I have a good feeling that all my hard work will pay well. 

Finally, school will be over. After all the blood, sweat and tears, I can finally say that my life is close to being the way I wanted it to be...I planned it to be. That thought I made a long "detour", I still managed to go back on track.

Time and time again, I am thankful for the support system that I have. My son, my family, my friends, my classmates and my professors, I thank everyone for bearing with the "temperamental me" these past few weeks.

My wish

If you are given one single wish, what would you wish for?

Right now? I would wish for that necklace that Hermione used in the third Harry Potter book/movie. If I would ask for anything, it would be the power to have as much time as I can to do everything that I needed to do. You see, my body is already giving in to fatigue. What’s holding me up is the sheer drive to get all these things done and over with.

Yesterday, I cried myself to sleep. Not that I am hurting or anything, not that I am thinking of heartaches or anything, I didn’t even have the time to deal with that. I am just plain tired. I have tons of things to do but my body can’t bear some more. If only I can have the energy of two persons so I can do many things at a time. Do you ever wish for a thing like that to happen? I sure do.

W-O-W!


Wow! Pure honest wow!

Not that I am bragging or anything, what I feel is just overwhelming…enough to brighten up my life ahead.

Did you even experience having something good…really great happen in your life and you can’t help but clap your hands like you are clapping for someone else? Crazy right? But that’s exactly how I feel. I can’t help but blink back the tears. I am so proud of myself. If this sounds like bragging, I really don’t care. I am just surprised for such a fortuitous discovery. I was stunned. I felt everything good. For a long time, I never felt this significant…

Last year was not the best year of my life…the worst actually…or so I thought. I simply felt rotten and hollow for the most part. So having learned that I am one of the students who are to receive the highest honor of recognition for this year’s academic achievers in my school, I could not help but give myself a good pat on the back to say, “Not bad!”

Honestly, I am close to tears right now. I just feel so blessed, it’s like I don’t deserve this honor. I never thought I can do this as this point of my life. When all I planned was to be a plain attentive student, I was surprised to discover that I can actually be something bigger and more.

Thank God for the family I have. Thank God for the friends who helped keep me sane during the past few months. More importantly, I thank God for the greatest inspiration in my life… my SON. NJ, Mama has been working so hard. This is just the start! You’ll see, I promise you will be proud of what Mama will become. This honor is for YOU. I love YOU.

Blessings...Blessings


Finally, I got my well-deserved scholarship coverage this semester. Boy, it is no joke to work out all those grades when you are a mom, an errand girl, a working girl, all rolled in one. It was just unexpected. I was surprised to be summoned at the office of the school’s vice president of finance to sign some papers. After that, I left the room with a significant discount on my school fees.

On the other hand, work is crazy. I am buried neck-deep with things that I am asked to do…which should be a good sign right? I am earning well for me and my son…more than well!

At the end of the day, I thought, why was I so afraid? With the decision to finally stand up for my son and myself, I admit that I was afraid I can’t make things work. Have I lost confidence in what I can do? Have my trust in my potentials grew less? Whatever the answers in these questions are, I admit that these unexpected blessings made me feel great about myself.

God has His way of testing your courage. With the saying that goes, “God will provide”, or “do you best and God will do the rest…” He really does!

Now that gives me enough reason to loosen up and feel more secured with my life these days.

Stuck at School

Our exam was canceled so I decided get started with work… here in school. The aircon is blasting icy cold air and everything is good. Thankfully I brought my jacket. Everything is comfortable so I decided to write and finish my daily article quota…with the quiet and all. What’s more fun? I am currently enjoying the free wifi/internet connection! Perhaps a nearby internet cafĂ© have forgotten to set the restrictions on their wifi setup. So what am I to do? Make the most of these freebies. There are still more things to enjoy when you are stuck up at school. Even though I am getting too impatient to get everything done and settled with, I am surprised to still find my school life satisfying and ‘fun’.

Yes!


On my first attempt to participate in a debate...we won!

on the proposition to adopt the provisions of the Magna Carta for Students, our team managed to overwhelm our honorable competitors by... 1 percent on our average ratings.LOL!

what's fun in the activity was everything got lost in the middle of the discussion..with all the nervousness and self consciousness that's getting in the way, clouding our dispositions and command for our words, I say we pulled it off.

so what's the price of winning? EXEMPTION IN THE FINALS EXAM!

so there...I am just happy to pull this event off of my to-do list.

we were just so tired with all the research...well, should I say "I" was tired of doing all the research and in completing all the answers to our list of possible interpolation questions. Boy that's a relief!!!

"...You Lack Effort"


One of my professors told me: “Wendy, they said magaling ka daw…sabi ko ewan…you lack effort kase.”

Honestly, I was not offended by the comment, but I was puzzled by what she meant. I admit that that Prof gave me my lowest grade in this semester for “Argumentation and Debate”. I was actually pissed because I really tried hard, given the time I have for studying and to comprehend all her instructions, I tried. I admit; that was not my best…because I have 8 more subjects to study right?

Every day, I have several roles to play and tasks to complete. First of all, I am single parent; I attend to my son’s needs in school, projects, tests, contributions, emergency checkups, all the works. Before I prepare my things, I have to lay down his uniform, socks, school bag, baon and the list goes on. Second, I am a daughter and a niece; I am the one who is asked to go for errands because I am the ‘able’ body in the house. Groceries, market, pension, all errand there is. I live with people ages 60 and up. I am a student; I come to class, which takes about 8 to 10 hours of my day, and fulfill all the requirements, pay my tuition fee on time, wear my uniform and ID promptly and all the works. Lastly, I work. I need to earn money to sustain my needs. I need to earn money to sustain my son’s medicines and all else that his father cannot suffice. This is all of me and that subject is just a tiny bit of my life. I do all these everyday and with all my might I do it at MY BEST because the fact that I can do them all, I made REAL EFFORT at that.

So I thought, people can easily judge people, but there is more of what they seem to be. There are underlying reasons why they act in such a manner that may not live up to your expectations or ideals. But the thing is; they put effort in life.

Here’s the thing, after a long night of completing the debate brief she gave us as a project, and missing my beauty sleep because I have a job to attend to my son who needs my attention in the morning and still have classes to go to, I get this remark…”YOU LACK EFFORT.”

Hells bells! Everyone is entitled to their opinion right?!

The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes short again and again, who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause, who at best knows achievement and who at the worst if he fails at least fails while daring greatly so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”

What a Day


I sat back and drank in the sunset and the darkness of night started closing in. Spending cozy time with my company relaxes me much, which is why I sometimes treat spending time with them as a guilty pleasure sometimes. This day is sure a wonder to have passed. A day filled with lots of writing, for work and school. Once, I can write up to 16 articles. Today, I have made my first 20.

My temple is throbbing and my vision already blurs. As I attended class, I started wondering why I continue to put myself in this masochistic torture. MASOCHISTIC TORTURE, sounds like redundant right, but it really is.

What I know is that something good will come out of all these troubles. I know that striving to do more every day will make me become the better version me, not just a college graduate gal but a fulfilled woman. But till that time comes, I have to bear these sweet tortures. I welcome more. Life’s a bitch, but I am the tougher bitch.

No point complaining here. Gotta spend some time fighting and striving some more. That’s the way to live. That’s my day-to-day battles. Through these challenges, I will thrive. I must. I need to. I must. I shall. I will. I’ll win.

Tight, Tighter, Tightest


These past few days were hectic. I was too preoccupied with things at school and at work. To add up to the week's hype, it is NJ's first periodical exam this Friday. Boy this week sure is challenging. So what's a mother to do? PRIORITIZE. Of course, NJ comes first, then I get my hands on my school notes and projects, then shall I get back to work. priorities and priorities, these are what guides me when all the things I need to do seem to go beyond my hands. I know I can pull this week off. I only got 3 days to go and I am coping well so far. Next week will be another story. I got my midterm exams coming up. After messing up my prelim standing, this is my time to catch up and by God I will do that! So Wendy, focus! focus! focus!

Fatigue


what a day! i have done so many things today. I have written all my articles, I have attended my meetings and have attended all my classes. with schedules of long quizzes, reports and exams in tow, I grow tired just thinking of everything else I needed to do. but tiredness is just a physical limitation. even if my eyes are already red, strained and the veins in my fingers already pulsating, my mind still refuses to rest so I am to work late tonight so my brain will give up and finally permit me an ounce of sleep which i will enjoy for only 4 hours. my daily 4-hour sleep routine is already taking its toll, yet my spirit goes, "never say no, never surrender"

perhaps I will just get used to the tiredness for I know that I shall reap what I sow in the end. I felt just like this last sem and boy I was rewarded. no time for complaints now and just keep going. my purpose is already set and all I needed to do is keep my eye on the prize. i know i can get that especially that everything I needed is just at arm's length.
